Orvis CFO Reels In category Fly Fishing Written by superjessy be a very good resource. I stopped by the Deerfield, IL Orvis shop today and saw that they are selling the CFO reels for 40% off. I picked up a CFO III Disc Drag for $147. I don't know if the other Orvis stores are running similar sales but this is about as good a price as you can get, even compared to eBay.

Hoover Dam In category Fly Fishing Written by Animeg Hi, I was hoping someone could please give me some info mainly on the trout fishing between Hoover Dam and Willow Beach. I'll be heading out there in November and my parents said they would make some time for me to fish, woohoo! I have searched the past posts about this, and they are all a few years old. How is the the trout fishing there now? From what I've been reading I understand that it w
mystery bug frustration In category Fly Fishing Written by navi-c Over the years I have encountered on stillwaters and slow moving sections of rivers a type of bug that has been impossible to imitate. It is typically 3 millimeters long and looks very much like a housefly without any fuzz. It's not a mayfly and it's not a midge. It's got a thick body, no tails and very clear wings. Last week I met up with these bugs again in a tiny creek where several good si
Striped Bass in Upper Delaware - Taking trout off as I land In category Fly Fishing Written by EEGuy Last weekend I was on the Upper Delaware trout fishing... I hooked onto a nice 16" trout below the Hancock Bridge. As I was brought it within 10 feet of me, a HUGE, at least 40 inch (fat, no idea what weight) striped bass took the trout off my line. Later that day down near the Calicoon Bridge, I was landing a similar Rainbow. I felt a tug and the trout jumped 5 feet out of the water... it ran
Vermont NEK Autumn Req In category Fly Fishing Written by Dann I am a Floridian who is planning on traveling to northern VT at the end of Sep/beg of Oct. I intend to fish a couple of days (not the entire purpose of the trip), most likely on the Lamoile east of Jeffersonville, maybe the Clyde, Green River Res, and maybe the Black River. brook trout fishing in pa and dna In category Fly Fishing Written by Mutter I was out on my new favorite streams today . . . On the hike down I met a guy coming up the trail. I was glad to see him, because - there was a white Chevy Blazer at the trail head. I've never seen another human being on these streams, let alone a vehicle at the trailhead! I was paranoid that it was someone fishing, I peeked in his windows: he had written directions to the trailhead on the pas

Cutthroat in the Potomac? In category Fly Fishing Written by clintcasey Just saw a post on abpf that got my attention: a picture of a woman holding a rather large (23") Cutthroat that is said to have been caught in the mighty Potomac. Fish and dope In category Fly Fishing Written by PHISHSIHd Just read something about hemp seeds attracting fish and it being a very old time chumming method. I think I'm going to have to beg some seeds from the only person I still hang out with who's still apt to have a baggie around. Just to see. Makes sense. If the pro-hemp group (for reasons other than or in addition to toking) is correct, hemp seeds are very nutritious and full of nice oil. Good

Trout fishing in the Drakensberg In category Fly Fishing Written by divin4fun I was taught to fish by an amusing fellow the Rev. James Cameron Chutter, author of the book 'Captivity Captive'. He was a great fellow for stories - he had one about being followed by a ghost car on the road from Underberg, everybody felt it likely that it was a spiritual car, a whiskey'd car if anything. So, I had several flies, some that I remembered, others invented since then, and I used all
A Greenback Stream In category Fly Fishing Written by tiedye611 No. That's their normal coloration. Some are more colorful than others. That one was especially colorful, that's why I took the picture. The one's I caught at the last stream I tried, were less colorful (but that could also be because they were so small).
Hole in the Head Silver In category Fly Fishing Written by Argonaut Yesterday I was fishing the Cascade river for Silvers and caught a very strange fish. It was a Silver with a hole in it's nose large enough for half my thumb. I've posted a picture on abpf. The margins of the wound seem to be healed, so I think the wound is old. The fish put up a fair fight, and was bright enough to keep. People talk about how delicate fish are when injured in the head. I

Any Iowans Out There? In category Fly Fishing Written by Panthaira As was noted in a previous thread started by me ("Wisconsin Trout Fishermen-Proposed Law"), there is a move afoot to remove protections on very small streams here in the state of Wisconsin.
