I have done a little fly fishing, (not much) and I would really like to catch a couple of trout...little brookies are fine. I want to take a weekend trip up to the blue ridge, and I would like to know where to fish. Is it okay to fish in the late summer/fall? How is the rapidan for trout? and the big question, what fly's do I use? I will be using a 7'6" 3wt. Any one care to comment?

Brewing with a nice drawing of a a flyfisherman on the label exhibiting tailing loops that look similar to mine. The beers OK but nothing spectacular but I figure there may be few bought in the Penns

Does anyone know what the law is regarding wade fisherman on Alberta's trout streams? Is it like Montana, where the public can walk the banks of a stream (up to high water mark) through private property?
Or is it like Colorado, where such behaviour can result in a trespass ticket?
I'm planning a trip to the Ram and Raven Rivers, and I don't know how much private property is in the area.

Yep, sure did...ordered my first ever custom 'boo rod from John Kenealy, and it only took me 4 months to make up my mind to spend that kind of money on a bluegill/bass rod. The rod will be finished in Feb. so now I can anticipate while the snow flies. I can still remember that sensual feeling of casting that little beauty at his casting pond, nothing like it.

I've been catching more my my usual amount of Brookies lately since I've been fishing high altitude streams due to our heat wave. One thing I've noticed is that I have a MUCH higher incidence of deep hooking with the little Brookies than any our type or size of trout and this is on dries.
I think part of it is that they have a much bigger mouth than do

I had several instances over the weekend where some nice sized fish shook off the fly resulting in long distance releases. I'm curious what would be the most common cause of this, i.e.: poor hookset, not enough/too much line tension, dull hook, etc.
Regarding sharpening, I've read that many of you routinely sharpen the hook each time before you tie on the fly, but I've just been sharpening them a

Back a couple of weeks ago, I contributed to a spey rod evaluation and for my efforts, received an Orvis Clearwater 8 wt. 3 pce. spey rod. A very nice rod but the section lengths are too long for the TDI so eBay it went. Then, I located a brand new Loomis Trilogy 13' 9/10 4 pce.
on eBay and it arrived this week. So far so good, translated one good rod that was not quite right into one that was

This struck home to me when I replaced the handle and an uplocking reel seat on a rod with a new handle and a down locking reel seat. The rod just didn't feel "right" after this. I reshaped the new grip so it was the same as the old one. This helped a little but it just didn't feel the way it should. Well, recently I drove off with this rod laying on the roof of my truck re

For some reason it really, really bugs me and I won't buy anything in stores that do, but every once in a while, like today, I find that one that never did it before started to without any notice. Several that did in the past stopped, for some reason. I wonder if complaints had anything to do
