I stopped by the Deerfield, IL Orvis shop today and saw that they are selling the CFO reels for 40% off. I picked up a CFO III Disc Drag for $147. I don't know if the other Orvis stores are running similar sales but this is about as good a price as you can get, even compared to eBay.

I have dry flied for trout all my life and am now looking to salmon and steelhead fish. I will be fishing around Chico california. Any web sites on salmon and steelhead fishing people can recommend? Any flies to recommend? My heaviest fly poles are a daiwa 6/7, a #1172 golden sabre 6/7, and a daiwa 8 weight. I only have 2 reels, a perine automatic fly reel no 81 and a hardy lightweight lrc.

We have several Mitchell 782 for salmon fishing in NY ...they were discontinued several years ago and are scarse on eBay. The unique feature other than large capacity, is that the rewind handle does NOT spin when a fish streams out the line. We frequently use just mono and put 500 yards of 12 pound Trilene ...peel off 10 yards at a time when it gets scuffed up on rocks.

A friend gave me an old Medalist reel with a bunch of line on it a couple of years back. Its old silk line, probably from the 40s based on a thread last year for dating old Plueger reels. The line is pretty gummy and brittle; a small piece of the tippet broke off

They are all very good quality wise. I like the reels as much as I like my hardy lrh.
What are people's opinion of them? While they are great products, the warranty's are very discouraging.

Yep, sure did...ordered my first ever custom 'boo rod from John Kenealy, and it only took me 4 months to make up my mind to spend that kind of money on a bluegill/bass rod. The rod will be finished in Feb. so now I can anticipate while the snow flies. I can still remember that sensual feeling of casting that little beauty at his casting pond, nothing like it.

I primarily bass fish. I have a 9` 9wt rod with 8 wt. bass plug line. If a perch with bad timing grabs the plug, he will experience flying for the first time. It is not what you would call a delicate rig. I am interested in a second rig, probably a 5 wt.
