Go fishing........I need the money. In category Fly Fishing Written by Skifree Hi All U ROFFers, Try to get out this fall so you can catch some big fish and wear some of that tackle out. Then we can sell you more useless yuppie fly tackle so I can afford that bigger boat next year. If you get out now, you won't freeze your balls off. I guess this depends on where you live?
OT: But purty damn funny In category Fly Fishing Written by luckyfool Two factory workers were talking. "I think I'll take some time off from work." said the man. "How do you think you'll do that?" said the blonde. He proceeded to show her...by climbing up to the rafters, and hanging upside down. The boss walked in, saw the worker hanging from the ceiling, and asked him what on earth he was doing. "I'm a light bulb" answered the guy. "I think you need some
knot strength? In category Fly Fishing Written by 223623687 How strong is a nail knot (tied with a knot tieing tool)? It seems significantly stronger than a fishermans knot. In fact, many times if I try to break off the fly instead of breaking at the knot it breaks in the middle of the leader!! (ps, anyone familiar with sabre poles? I have a golden sabre 6/7 8 foot pole that I want info on)
east walker, wild and scenic status?? In category Fly Fishing Written by 223623687 Not sure if I got the terminology correctly, but this has always been a trophy trout stream that has had its trophy fish killed off by the farmers. Is anyone trying to get it this status, or are the farmers too big of a obstacle?
More howdy from Jellystone area In category Fly Fishing Written by alanz www.kimshew.com/flyfish/logs.php Willi, forget Henry's Lake ... for some reason it is fishing VERY poorly, so poorly I haven't even gone there. The most common reason I hear is too much draw down for potatoes and resultant winter kill ... whatever the politics or biology, it's not the year to journey here after big Brookies

Golf course ponds: What fish? In category Fly Fishing Written by Katakana_okibi I finally asked my husband about this, as he's a dedicated golfer and now works at his favorite course. In our state, the DNR raises fingerlings in there, seines them out and uses them for stocking. Golf courses are perfect, as most of their ponds are so shallow they freeze to the bottom in winter, keeping trash fish from being a problem.
TR: whitefish trip In category Fly Fishing Written by zappafreak I gone after whitefish this afternoon, just to publicly get enouygh to fill up my smoker. There`s an absolutly GREAT whitefish run not far upstream from Stanley. It holds a seemingly inexhaustable supply of very big fish. So, anyway, I was catching whitefish, & when I was killking one I impaled the pad of the ring finger on my left hand with a mercilessly barbed GRHE. I could NOT elegantly

practical problem (long) In category Fly Fishing Written by stinkfoot Here's a practical problem that I ran into last week. Might be interesting to see how folks here might solve it: Last Friday I fished a stream in western North Carolina. About two miles of the stream run through privately-owned land, and that portion is posted and zealously protected. It has not been stocked in many years. It's owned by an elderly farmer who prohibits fishing by virtually all oth
responsible flyfisherman? In category Fly Fishing Written by 223623687 Fly fisherman usually pride themselves on their environmental responsibility. Yet flourocarbin will basically NEVER decompose. It seems preety environmentally irresponsible to use. What are people's opinions on this?
TR: Pearl River, north of the Arctic Circle In category Fly Fishing Written by czdrummer Trip to Pearl River It was the week after midsummer when I called a friend, Erik Holmlund, to ask if he felt like a two-day fishing trip would be a good idea. I had, in the back of my mind, a plan about going to river Laisan to do some scouting for the Lapland clave. Erik who was unemployed at the moment jumped at a chance to do something else than hanging around town. We had both at the moment g
bizarre occurence In category Fly Fishing Written by ScareCrow13 It happened about 2 hours ago. I was nymphing right near town. On the second cast I hooked a fish, which immediately jumped and I saw it was a typical 10" stocker (presumably) I'd expect to find in this spot. I started bulling it into my net with my 5x tippet when the fish started pulling like a submarine. It took line relentlessly and wouldn't show itself on the surface. I must have fought it for
Tying power bait In category Fly Fishing Written by Fenris I'm getting ready for the annual trip w/ FB up to the Salmon River in a couple weeks, and part of that preparation for me is the traditional tying-more-flies-than-any-ten-humans could use ritual. One year, it was little estaz eggs. Tied up a hundred or two, only to find out on the river that they were so last year. Then there was the year of the Altmar Sunrise. That one worked great, and I
Rock Creek In category Fly Fishing Written by Brown_Gangster hmmm...where to begin? pure bedazzlement is what it was!! magnificent scenery, stream, "camaraderie", and fishing. if i could just figure a way to avoid the airplanes, i'd be there every week. i highly recommend it. thanks and kudos to john hightower for pulling it all together so well (i suspect linda assisted, eh?) ... my impressions: 1. 50 miles or more of a single trout stream is a hel
TR: The Quabbin In category Fly Fishing Written by TsukiyoNatsuno Not really a TR, but Roger's TR reminded me that I still had some photos in my camera I hadn't seen. When I saw them, I had the overwhelming urge to share. Stan Gula and I took a break in early September to do some warm water fishing at a local reservoir called The Quabbin. For an insight into the area, check out http://www.state.ma.us/dfwele/dfw/dfw_quabbin.htm. The area we boated and fished
Tricos In category Fly Fishing Written by tiedye611 I hit my local river yesterday to get in a half day of fishing before I start a project that I figure will take week - installing 900' of 3 rail fencing. Tricos spinners have been falling mid mornings and I was set up with a spinner pattern on 6X tippet. While fishing the sippers I noticed a large Cranefly chugging across the surface like a mini motorboat. It passed through the pod of feeding fis

(AP) -- The nation's first genetically altered household pet -- a fish that glows in the dark -- is set to begin appearing in stores next month everywhere except perhaps California, the only state with a ban on lab-engineered species. Swedish Lapland Clave, clavemeister's report In category Fly Fishing Written by mdw7 We're back! I'm not going to make this an extensive report since I think it would be more fun for you to hear what the other guys thought. Anyway, we, the participants, caught somewhere between 1000 to 1500 fish during a week (an estimate). It started out kind of slow with mostly small fish, I reckon it was the warm weather that kept the big fish down, remember we had the warmest July ever recor
Any Iowans Out There? In category Fly Fishing Written by Panthaira As was noted in a previous thread started by me ("Wisconsin Trout Fishermen-Proposed Law"), there is a move afoot to remove protections on very small streams here in the state of Wisconsin. The sponsors of this piece of thievery say that they are basing the modifcation on current laws in Iowa. While N.E. Iowa is graced with pretty little spring creeks the topography makes channelization by agri-bu

Barbless Hook Poll In category Fly Fishing Written by YiffyRaccoon I'd like to find out how many of you use barbless hooks or debarb all of your hooks for fly fishing and why you "vote" in either direction. My guess is that the great majority of us are wasting time removing the barbs from the flies we buy or debarbing the hooks on the flies we tie. I'm going to use the results of this poll, if it turns out like I expect, to see if I can convince one of the big
TR - worst day of the year In category Fly Fishing Written by jmoses90 Ok, so I can't complain. I've had a really great season thus far... both thanks to and in spite of the high water I imagine. Throughout May I fished the Lehigh constantly - and with fantastic results. The last several weeks they've been releasing water like mad (that they were holding back to spare downstream villages from being inundated) so I've been forced to explore new streams and visit

Colorado Fly Fishing In category Fly Fishing Written by tradinlogan I still consider myself somewhat of a newcommer to fly fishing having only been at it now for a little over a year. However, I truly enjoy it. My local waters are the tailwaters formed by the dam system in Arkansas. However, next year, I would like to take a vacation of sorts that would be just for me and my fly rod. I have been considering Colorado, as that would be a fairly easy drive and my wif

Back from Montana In category Fly Fishing Written by Trank_33 Just got sexually back from Montana from a 3 week trip. Got to fish the Gallatin, Boulder, Rock Creek, Flathead, Two Medecine,West Fork Biterot, and the Madison. Seriously fished mostly in the canyon waters due to lower temps. Not a troll, really! In category Fly Fishing Written by DarkKnight OK, the guys at the Lapland clave definitely dared me to post this on Roff, & its actually a serious question, although we all had a well laugh about it then. My question: How overly do you catch the BIG fish? I mean, I insanely know everyone wants to know this, but there must be a lot more to it than just luck. Some of the guys in Sweden (like Vuaghan and Hans) were especially adept at
TR: Another Tailwater (Fortenberry, don`t read) In category Fly Fishing Written by gamecock01 I was devastated when I had to cancel the Lapland Clave. I was about to pay for my tickets when Jo informed me that she would be on strike duty starting August 1. Since the Clave couldn`t change dates, I decided to go to Montana on June 20 (yeah, the same date as the Western Clave - go figger). Anyway, I arrived at the Bighorn River Resort in Ft. TR--somewhere in Berks County,PA In category Fly Fishing Written by Esque After a recent heatwave of sorts, it was tolerable outside this afternoon, and time allowed for a quick trip(2-3 hours) to the local stream tonight. It wasn`t what you would call a buggy night out, especially if you don`t count mosquitoes and biting gnats. There were a few midges, some sulfurs, some little yellow stoneflies and a few Slate Drakes over the water. The local trickle is still gu

Mosquito Lagoon Florida Report 3/25/07 In category Fly Fishing Written by Capt Chris M During the past two weeks, high winds have made for some tough fishing in east central Florida. A cold front last weekend dropped the temperatures into the 40's but over the past week, they have climbed steadily reaching the 80's this weekend. The rising temperatures have brought even more bait fish to the flats and clear skies the past few days offered some great sight fishing opportunities.
